In my opinion, the executioner (the flatliner) is the one who executes a condemned man, who ends his life.
In this case, the one who's sentenced to die is an exterminator of feelings and emotions (a heartkiller).
Therefore, the "flatliner" is one that kills a killer.
It's a meaningful sentence.
He'll kill the murderer in order to feel and love freely and without fear.
I don't know if I'm wrong but this is the sense that I find.

In itself it doensn't mean anything but it has a meaning if you know the stories about Lazarus and Frankenstain and know the names of characters...You could say that it is an inside story that only few people know.

...I do think that it does mean something, but like olga1918 said, it's some sort of "inside joke". But I don't think, at least if I got it right, that only a few people will get it, since after all (at least in the European context, of course I don't know for all of the world) these two stories are quite well-known.

Since I was raised christian (which seems to help me understand this, who would have thought that it was actually good for anything?!) I know the story of lazarus. It's a story in the bible about a man that was already dead, but was brought back to live by Jesus after being already dead and buried for some days. They open the grave, Jesus tells him to come out, and Lazarus, still clad in his burial shroud, leaves the grave and is alive.

As for Frankenstein, it's a fictional character by Mary Shelly who wrote a gothic-novel named Frankenstein. In the story, Frankenstein is a young doctor who creates an artificial human being. Which, sadly, turns out to be a monster.

So, it's "just" the old "dead - undead - alive" sort of thing, I guess.There is some tension when you compare the sources: one is the so called holy book of Christianity, the other one a gothic fiction novel about some maybe schizophrenic doctor who trys to play god.
In this case,Lazarus isn't ressurected by Jesus, but by Frankenstein (I suppose at least)

Oke everybody, this is just my opinion. After being a HIM fan for a long time I hope you please respect it. I don't ask any one to agree with me but to just respect it.
I really don't know what to make of this song..It sounds really poppy and the lyrics are a bit silly. It's not a bad song..It's just not what I hoped it would be.
Bands change, they grow, evolve..but this song is really not what I think of when I think of HIM. They have made a lot of different things. Some things were awesome, sometimes touching and some bad stuff. I am not a woreshipper. I don't like everything. But after listening to HIM for such a long time I always respect is. The songs, no matter how crappy, always touch something deep inside me.
This is something totaly different and I think that I can't evolve this way. This just doesn't touch me. It's not getting inside if you understand. It just doesn't sound like it's written for you personally like the rest. To commercial.. I'm sorry for it. I will buy the new album and I will give it a change but when it al sounds like this than I don't think that I like it.
It's a new thing that they've tried with this song and I'm sure that it will give HIM new fans (12 year old girls with a orgasm everytime they hear or say the name Ville)but I also think that they lose some fans.
As I said, I will give it a change to kick in but I fear for the worst after hearing this.

maybe its sounds a liitle bit poppy...but HIM is one off the bands who grown up with the years and they will be change her music too...they didnt sing and write the same shit all the time...the try new things and thats very rare in this world and thats a great stepp...maybe the will lose fans but they will get new fans....many new fans...and a great HIM fan like me will stay with the band and many other fans think the same as me...i like the song heartkiller...and its nice that they show us all the experience they learnd in the last years...

These are just my opinions. I am really sorry that the song made me say this: I didn't like it. It sounds too poppy. Ville's voice sounds different, lyrics are weird and kind of stupid, riffs aren't satisfying. I didn't expect it to be something like Passion's Killing Floor, which was definitely the best single of HIM, but i didn't expect something like this either after Venus Doom. When i first listened to the 30 seconds of the song i thought "Maybe it is just this part, maybe the rest won't be that bad." but apparently i was wrong. Not every song of HIM is perfect, there are few songs that i don't like to listen.
Despite everything, i still have faith in HIM. There is no album of HIM that i don't like, so i hope, this too i will like. Waiting for the whole album.

This was kinda expected of HIM from me in the way how the titels on the songs was and that will give this sound. I think the have go a big step from razorblade romance until now! Hear the sound of a wider sound picture it is more hardcore it is revolationary since Venus doom too!

Christmas Market
I watched the video with the lyrics and I listened to the song about 20 times yesterday.
It somehow is what I've expected - Ville mentioned that the new album would not be about poetry, but more about straightforward lyrics.
I love Venus Doom, although it was a bit too heavy for me the first time I heard the album. Heartkiller is a bit too poppy for me and I think that I won't be able to hear this song all day. The guitar solo sounds strange, Ville's voice does not have as much feeling as, for example, Funeral of hearts and there is a "ringing" sound in Heartkiller (I don't know how to put it right... It's like at a Christmas Market xD).
The only thing making me believe that this is still a rock song is the great job Gas is doing at the drums.
I still don't really get the lyrics. The beginning makes me think of Ovid, but why Frankenstein? *sigh*
So what do we have here? Too poppy, not extremely deep lyrics, Christmas Market, Frankenstein, many repetitions, hardly any feelings.
Why is "Heartkiller" not a bad song?
Basically, a soft album follows a heavy one - Love Metal was quite hard (at least I think so), Dark Light was a little bit softer, Venus Doom was extremely heavy and now, Screamworks is quite poppy.
I think that this is okay - Him has many facets and t is their right do show that they can do any music type they want to do.
Maybe there will be many new Him fans who like the new album and start to listen to the older ones, too.
"Screamworks" is a chance for everyone to learn more about Him.
And last but not least: If you only hear the same type of music over and over, you'll get tired of it and you will never miss it.

Give me a break... You guys come on here and bitch about progression. These guys are busting ass to move up the ladder and you want them to have less opportunity and de---volve back to old records with less " experience in life" and "money" AND "assets" to assist in making great music. Lets be Very clear here. Venus was a brilliant stoke from this band to shut up all the "they aren't a metal band" sh#t talkers... but they were "on to something with dark light" and they lost that by kicking ass in Venus. So-- what did they do? The topped Dark Light by 400% and kicked this song/album out.The production I here in this song is f'in amazing! Brilliant,... the tracking is nothing less than the same... AND... they aren't talking about "ripping wings off a butterfly" which made them lame out of the gate. BY FAR the best work I've ever heard from this band.(Although my heart prefers Venus)

i have read in many HIM interviews and tuned into the Euro Rock Radio interview about this new album. Well, from what i heard the new album would be darker and rougher than Venus Doom and i was ready for that. But, accounted to the new single: Heartkiller; I am very dissapointed. This song is a big change from HIM's previos styles. i know that Ville Valo (maybe the whole band) hopes people like them for what they are doing, not for what they have done, but i am melancholy about this. To have the same producer from 3oh!3 terrifies me. It drives me insane to think that this new album will sound as terrible as the single. The lyrics are crammed together and very fast-paced. I would have loved to hear more gothic-tinged songs. Although Dark Light was produced in America, i still liked it. But this is a turn for the worst. It sounds more like Fall Out Boy, rather than HIM. It's a huge dissapointment, this is one song (so far) that i will not add to my collection or play in my car or list as an influence of mine.

I am not saying they aren't allowed to change, because artists do change,and that's good, and I do like the new stuff, just wish they would have some old school tracks on every album that made them the huge hit across the world that they are today. I am honestly disappointed at all the negativity the streaming from so-called HIM fans! I hope the band is not reading all of that bullshit that is being written about their song. As if Ville really cares whether small minded people like his music or not. He will carry on anyway. As well as the other members. For the record, artists to tend to grow just as HIM has and I am right along with them. Their new material is excellent. Don't like it? I have noticed that every time they record in Finland they are the "Old HIM" but when they record here in America its very different.....'DARK LIGHT' America 'SCREAMWORKS' America,,,the rest of their albums were all in Finland.
